Dr Vinesh Appadurai

Dr Vinesh Appadurai is an advanced cardiovascular imaging consultant cardiologist and PhD candidate with specialist expertise in echocardiography, cardiac MRI, and cardiac CT. He undertook advanced echocardiography training at The Prince Charles Hospital, developing highly specialised expertise in structural and advanced echocardiography, prior to completing advanced cardiac imaging fellowships at Northwestern Memorial Hospital (Chicago) with comprehensive multimodality training.
Dr Appadurai is a Senior Lecturer at The University of Queensland and is actively involved in teaching, research supervision, and academic leadership. He is a consultant cardiologist with an inpatient clinical team at The Prince Charles Hospital (TPCH), where he is responsible for the training and supervision of registrars, advanced trainees, and fellows. In addition to his role on the structural interventional teams at TPCH and St Andrews War Memorial Hospital as a highly skilled structural echocardiologist, he is employed as an SMO within the Department of Radiology at The Prince Charles Hospital, where he reports cardiac CT and cardiac MRI.
His clinical and research interests focus on advanced 4D flow cardiac MRI and myocardial mechanics—including strain, mechanical dispersion, myocardial work, and diastolic function—with applications in heart failure, coronary artery disease, and advanced cardiovascular phenotyping. He is actively involved in guideline development and has most recently co-authored the international ASE/EACVI clinical strain guidelines, in addition to leading and contributing to large multicentre translational imaging research programs.
